SANDYNE is a desktop music studio built in Tampere, Finland — in the Nordic tradition of taking audio seriously and keeping the tools approachable.
Why we're building it
We think there's a gap in the market: there isn't an excellent, free DAW for desktop computers that's genuinely enjoyable to use and easy to learn. Powerful music software tends to be expensive, intimidating, or both. SANDYNE is our attempt to close that gap — a complete studio you can open, understand, and make a real song in.
Where it comes from
The roots run deep. The thinking behind SANDYNE comes from nearly three decades of software engineering and a long fascination with digital audio — including time spent in a university digital-audio research group in Tampere. Along the way we've built our own synthesizers, written our own music, and played our instruments enough to know what gets in the way and what doesn't.
How it's possible
Software of this scope used to take a large team and a long runway. Modern AI tooling changes that math. We use AI extensively across the build, which is what makes it possible to ship a studio this ambitious — and to keep it free during the preview while we find out whether it's something people genuinely want to use.
The goal
